2020-21

We finished up the season in 11th place in a very tight team race. We finished with 4 state medalists out of our 11 qualifiers. Earning their first state medals were Brenyn Delano-4th at 106lbs and Caydn Kucera- 5th at 126lbs. Brenyn is a freshman and is on track to be a 4X State medalist. Earning his 2nd medal was Adrian Bice who was 5th place at 113lbs and 2nd at 106lbs last year. Lastly was Blayze Standley who picked up his 3rd state medal, 2nd trip to the finals and came home with the 170lb State Championship! Blayze had an amazing tournament where he picked up pins in the first 2 rounds and then beat a previously undefeated opponent from Papillion-Lavista in the semis. He won 7-5 in OT after nearly securing the match winning takedown in regulation. After that he decisioned Austin Miller of Norfolk 5-2 to win his State Title. What a great example of how records and rankings are nice but do nothing to help determine who wins a match or a tournament. His story will be one that will be shared for a long time!

Drew Loosvelt just narrowly missed out on a medal and his story would have been an amazing tale of how to persevere through injuries but unfortunately he was on match shy of his goal of being a medalist. Other qualifiers were: Blake Cerny at 120lbs, Alex Korte at 145lbs, Carter Braun at 152lbs, Rylee Iburg at 182lbs, Liam Blaser at 195lbs and Justin Gaston at 220lbs.

This group was a fun group and despite all of the obstacles this year they continued to work hard and be flexible as some of the rules we had to follow changed weekly. They never complained and showed up everyday to keep getting better. There will be 8 returning state qualifiers next year so with a productive off-season the team should be a contender again next year.
